The Marriage Auction (Season 1, Volume 1)
Rating: 4 out of 5
"Life was hard. It was messy. It was complicated."
Four young women enter into a clandestine auction to be married to the highest bidders. For no less than a million dollars a year, for three years, each woman will do what it takes to secure her future. Entangled in a high-stakes game of money, lust, power and the hope for absolution, this group of women becomes a sisterhood unlike any other. Once chosen by a man she's never met and agrees to marry sight unseen... there is no going back. Hidden secrets, wicked desires, fiery couplings and intense family drama are all part of the deal when you willingly enter into The Marriage Auction.
Each woman has entered into the auction for a different reason and comes into the auction with a different background. The men bidding also have vastly different reasons for participating in the marriage auction. The men a few of them were going to end up with was a little bit obvious when they were given head shots of the men to look at and focused on one longer than the others, but I'm not mad about it. I think each character is matched surprisingly well in a way that makes the romance believable. I only have issue with like one story line which is what is making me give it a 4 instead of 5.
I did not expect this book to be honest. I heard lots of good things about it so I was excited to read it. It did not disappoint in the slightest. It delivers on all that is promised in the summary for sure. The book explores a lot of different perspectives, like at least 10, and it does it very well. And each character is so amazingly different from each other that it was hard to believe how well the shifts worked. I enjoyed each perspective and the variety of characters and plots.
My biggest regret is that this book ended like it did and I don't have the next volume. I'll admit I'm bitter about that... I mean all those unanswered questions I have... I need to know what happens with my favorite couples!!!
