Things aren’t always what they appear to be, Aries. Dig deeper and you’ll see.
Oh my god! I was gifted this book and let me just say it is phenomenal. It has been a long time since I read a YA book and this one does not disappoint. It is everything you could want my only complaint is now I have to wait to read the others before I know what happens!!! First Glance is the first in the Neptune Trilogy and it definitely leaves you wanting to know what is next. (Good news you can purchase them all now).
First Glance is about a young medium named Aries Dade who has just lost her mother. Aries is able to communicate with a variety of spirits but for some reason she can’t contact her mother. Aries is convinced that their is more to her mother’s death than meets the eye. Her suspicions begin to be confirmed the more she learns about her new school and the other students. As she searches for answers about her mother she must also navigate the realities of being a teenager in high school.
She quickly makes enemies of the popular girls and finds herself the love interest of two boys she is attracted to for very different reasons. Each warns her against a relationship with the other, but neither will give her answers as to why she should avoid the other one. She soon finds herself the object of a bully intent on ruining her reputation. Unsure who to trust Aries is determined to learn the truth about the death of her mother and how it’s connected to her new school.
Lewin’s novel is a fast paced narrative with extremely well developed characters. Lewin is able to showcase the realities of high school and the angst of being a teenager with such precision it’s as if you were part of the story. Be prepared for a cliffhanger and to not be able to set this one down until it’s done! I cannot wait to continue the series and find out what happens next.
