Electric Idol (Dark Olympus, 2)

Rating: 4 out of 5

"I want her. Want her with an intensity that doesn't make sense but that I can't deny. I mean to have her."

In the ultra-modern city of Olympus, there's always a price to pay. Psyche knew she'd have to face Aphrodite's ire eventually, but she never expected her literal heart to be at stake... or for Aphrodite's gorgeous son to be the one ordered to strike the killing blow. Eros has no problem shedding blood. But when it comes time to take out his latest target, he can't do it. Confused by his reaction to Psyche, he does the only thing he can think of to keep her safe: he marries her. Psyche vows to make Eros's life a living hell until they find a way out of this mess. But as lines blur and loyalties shift, she realizes he might take her heart after all... and she's not sure she can survive the loss.

I enjoyed this book much more than Neon Gods and part of that is because I knew more of what to expect. It also helped that I'm not as obsessed with Eros and Psyche as I am with Hades and Persephone. This book does a good job of building more of Olympus and its inner workings; and I'm intrigued to see more of how this plays out in the next book. I will admit that this book started off a little slow for me; also I'm not usually a fan of the marriage of convenience trope. However, I loved both Eros and Psyche's personalities in this book. They both felt like so much more than we got with Hades and Persephone.

Eros and Psyche are vastly different characters who work well together. I liked that she was all about showing him despite what he thought of himself, he deserved love and to be loved. His willingness to do ANYTHING to keep her safe was instantly a plus for me. Eros was really a big softie underneath it all and I loved him for it. He instantly is attracted to Psyche for the kindnesses she shows him and that melted my heart. My only regret with this book was that it wasn't super spicy. Also Hermes makes all of these books top notch and I need more about her sooner.
